The Carpets Come Up

The carpets come up and the work truly begins. No-one was sure what would be found under the stage and the sloping floor, so the first job was to pull up the carpets and remove any other fittings and fixtures from the floors in the main hall. A workforce of volunteers came together to get the job done.

Lifting the carpet revealed a wooden floor set into concrete creating the slope at the front and a wooden platform over a concrete base at the front and stage areas.

With the floors on show the other fixtures, such as the snack bar and bar areas on either side of the main hall, were removed and the debris placed in two large skips positioned in the car park at the rear.

This work has left the floors clear of obstructions so the machinery can be brought in and used to start the demolition of the stage areas and also to investigate the best method for removing the sloping floor.
